Obituary for Nancy Schafer

Nancy Schafer
Known for her kindness, sense of humor, and positive outlook on life, Nancy Lynn Schafer was the heart of her family and friends. Despite many physical obstacles, she dreamed of becoming a nurse, having a loving family, and seeing her children and grandchildren grow. She accomplished it all in her 68 years. Lost too soon, we remember her for the gift she was in life. Born in Long Beach, California on May 3, 1949, to parents, Marge and Charles Hogle, Nancy grew up in California and Iran. While in the hospital, she met the love of her life, Bruce Schafer, and they married on August 22, 1970. Nancy received her BSN from Chico State College and worked as a RN. Nancy and Bruce had two children, Steven and Sara, to whom she gave her heart. She brought people together as she provided support to those around her, helping others, listening, loving, laughing and providing compassion. Nancy was passionate about people and it showed deeply in her daily life. Additionally, she enjoyed reading, playing games (she was competitive too!), and volunteering at the church.
Nancy is survived by her husband, her two children, and grandchildren, Xavier Garcia Paredes, Maya Garcia Schafer, Emma Garcia Schafer, Brandt Schafer, and Reese Schafer, and her many friends.
We will celebrate Nancy’s life at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Salem, Oregon on December 9th, 2017 at 3pm. Contributions in her name may be made to Salem Public Library’s Youth Program, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Marion-Polk Food Share, or Habitat for Humanity.
