Obituary for (Crowell) Kim Hyatt

C. Kim Hyatt

May 25, 1933 - October 5, 2017

Salem - Kim was born in Chicago, Illinois and moved with his family to the Oregon coast as a child. He graduated high school in Albany, Oregon, earned a bachelor's degree at University of Oregon, and then settled in Salem where he worked for state and local government, first in forestry and later in human services.

In 1962 he married Paula Raff, and the two shared a great love of the out-of-doors. Kim loved to hike, camp, backpack, mountain climb, canoe, and ski, and he was an avid nature photographer and map-reader. He, along with Paula, was a life member of the Chemeketans hiking club and held leadership roles, and he volunteered maintaining trails at a local Girl Scout camp. Kim liked to read; write poetry, prose, and travelogue; play cards; and watch the ocean. He also enjoyed music and sang with the Salem Community Chorus.

Kim is survived by his wife Paula, daughters Karen Hyatt (Dune Erickson-Hyatt) and Gwen Hyatt (Twila Jordahl), siblings Peter Hyatt (Maureen Killoran), Esther Wender, and Judson Hyatt (Barbara), and many nieces and nephews.

No services will be held. Please remember Kim by keeping him in your thoughts whenever you are out-of-doors.
